The A.L.M. Approach: Sharing Innovation for Tangible Change 💡

Our Daily Math Court is driven by the A.L.M. (Artistic, Legal, Mathematical) Approach. This core pathway is fundamentally about sharing our innovative and pioneering approach to teaching and learning. It demonstrates how these disciplines combine to solve real-world problems and increase the math problem-solving skills and legal literacy of learners.

  • A – Artistic: In the A.L.M. approach, art is used to capture the legal scenarios and convey relevant messages to visual learners. It is also used to raise funds through the sale of digital art tokens to fund the work of the Math Court. This unique integration of visual creativity not only makes complex legal situations more accessible and engaging but also establishes a sustainable model for supporting our educational programs, emphasising a concept of practical giving to alleviate high math failures and other community issues, including possible low literacy levels of our citizenry.

  • L – Legal: The legal component grounds mathematical learning in real-world contexts. For our adult learners, the legal issues in the Pilot Project will focus on Landlord and Tenant scenarios, addressing practical concerns they may face. Meanwhile, in the Pilot Project phase, student learners will be looking at the legal issues surrounding school bullying, tackling pertinent challenges relevant to their daily lives. These distinct legal scenarios ensure relevance while providing common ground for mathematical application and enhanced legal literacy.
  • M – Mathematical: At its core, the mathematical component focuses on essential computational skills during the Pilot phase. While the legal scenarios differ between student and adult learners, the core math content is similar. This ensures that all learners build a robust foundation in quantitative reasoning and problem-solving before progressing to other modules.
